About Book

"Forestry is the science and art of establishing, maintaining, planting, utilising, preserving, and restoring forests, woods, and associated resources for the benefit of humans and the environment. From the oxygen we breathe to the wood we consume; we rely on forests for survival. Apart from providing habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans, forests also protect watersheds, reduce soil erosion, and help moderate the effects of climate change. Despite our reliance on trees, we continue to allow them to perish. Forestry science combines components of biological, physical, social, political, and management sciences. The future of the world's forests is a major topic of discussion in environmental circles. Concerns about the impacts of deforestation and climate change are raising awareness of the importance of conserving and managing existing forests and woodlands using sustainable forestry techniques. Forest management is critical for habitat formation and alteration, as well as for the supply of ecosystem services. Throughout the years, forestry has been viewed as a distinct science. With the growth of ecology and environmental science, the applied sciences have undergone a reorganisation.

This book provides comprehensive insights into the field of forestry science. It discusses in detail some of the essential causes and requirements for this subject. It incorporates areas like conserving biodiversity, protecting local livelihoods and forest ecosystems, reducing the negative effects of climate change, etc. It deals with forest ecosystems, deadwood in forests, ecohydrology and biogeochemistry. It also sheds light on restoration of tropical forests, biomass removal for bioenergy from boreal forests, quercus-dominated forest ecosystems and climate change risks. It attempts to understand the multiple branches that fall under the discipline of forestry and how such concepts have practical applications. Such selected concepts that redefine this area have been presented in the book. Coherent flow of topics, student-friendly language and extensive use of examples make the book an invaluable source of knowledge. It is meant for students who are looking for an elaborate reference on forestry science.
