About Book

"Optics is the branch of physics which involves the behavior and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. Optics usually describes the behavior of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. Because light is an electromagnetic wave, other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays, microwaves, and radio waves exhibit similar properties. Optical science is relevant to and studied in many related disciplines including astronomy, various engineering fields, photography, and medicine (particularly ophthalmology and optometry). Practical applications of optics are found in a variety of technologies and everyday objects, including mirrors, lenses, telescopes, microscopes, lasers, and fiber optics. Additionally, optical technology is employed in certain computers, where computations are performed utilising photons in visible or infrared beams rather than electrical. By incorporating this technology inside a computer, dubbed an optical computer, processing speed may be significantly boosted. Due to the fact that electric current travels at a tenth the speed of light, it may one day be feasible to create an optical computer capable of processing at 10 times the speed of today's computers. Intel is developing improved optical computing technologies that will significantly boost computer performance and efficiency.

This book is devoted to optical devices and their numerous applications in optical engineering, telecommunications, optoelectronics and consumer electronics-areas. It is a  compilation of chapters that discuss the most vital concepts in the field of optical devices. It deals with optical logic devices, thermal lens effect, tunable and memorable optical devices, symmetrical metal cladding waveguides, novel optical device materials. It also focuses on adaptive optical systems, photonic crystals for optical sensing, digital signal processing for optical communications and optical interconnect transceiver circuit design. It presents this complex subject in the most comprehensible and easy to understand language. Different approaches. evaluations and methodologies on telecommunications have been included in it. This book will be of valuable resource for engineers and researchers in telecommunications and optoelectronics, equipment designers and manufacturers, and graduate students and scholars interested in this rapidly evolving field.
